Vibration issue, please help
I have a 2001 XJ with a vibration problem that I can't isolate. I have used the search function, which led me to replace the plugs, coil pack, and cylinder 3 injector because the engine threw a "cylinder 3 misfire code". Problem not solved. So here goes. I have a vibration that occurs almost all the time. Hot or cold engine does not matter. Drive, park, or reverse, doesn't matter. When in neutral its still there but also emits a clanking sound, only in neutral though. However whenever my rpm's are above 2500, all problems go away. Whether I'm driving or just revving the engine in park, once I hit 2500 rpm everything operates very smooth. So today I had to make a 40 mile round trip and decided to drive 83 mph because that's above 2500rpm, after the trip vibration was somewhat gone, except for 2000-2500 rpm. I have no clue where to go from here. What do you guys think?

to eliminate motor/accesorys from issue you can remove the serp belt and start see if issue is still there if its not check all thing belt turns do not run long as thee is no cooling being done. If issue is still there its either motor probs or trans issues gotta start some where. ive had people come two me fter theve been told mi mechanic says my motors knocking pull the belt and find idlerpulls/harmonic balancer were the prob save them thoudands of dollars

Have you checked your motor mounts? If their worn badly it could do it. Also alot of the new aftermarket ones are poly so they cause more vibrations than stock.

Doug.... my jeep is bone stock. No lift, no aftermarket parts.
Plow.... motor mounts seem to be in good condition
On a side note, the vibration is so bad that it shakes the entire body. I can feel it in the floor boards, in the seat, even the passenger seat shakes back and forth when no one is sitting in it.

Free.... it runs like a dream after 2500 rpm. Very smooth, all cylinders firing, no problems at all. Will the serp strategy isolate the harmonic balancer or is that a "replace and pray" part?
