blah blah blah blah blah, "E85 is bad for your engine, E85 will eat your fuel lines, blah blah blah" do you have proof it will harm the exhaust valves? or just crap you've read that somebody else has posted on forums?

e85 actually burns cooler than gasoline
it actually burns alot cleaner too, which is why it will help pass a smog check.

Thermodynamics. E85 has more specific energy than gasoline. To get the same amount of energy output, it needs a smaller temperature difference from the intake air temp and the exit air temp (so yes, to match gas it burns cooler). However, it's getting the same difference as an engine running gas. More energy output, which comes out to power but it'll burn hotter.

I'm well aware it burns cleaner.

Yes I do, why don't you go and read the consumer reports articles on it, and the ones from United Labs, or the articles from the AAA oh and the traffic and hwy people.
Alcohol wasn't made to burn in low compression engines ask any racer worth his mustard. It causes the cylinder to run dry due to alcohols long burn at low compression, helping to causing the exhaust valves to beat themselves to death. E-85 vehicles have about 3 to 4 extra sensors to deal with the affects of running alcohol in low compression engines.

Yes it does burn cooler, due to the longer burn time. And if your having to run this fuel to pass smog something else is wrong.

They will smog anything in cali. Make sure you got a good gas cap. Not locking one, they never hold a seal during the vacuum check.
And by the way they got rid of the gross pollutor reference.
I deal with this every other year for my family. Specialy on my brothers lifted jacked up Passport.
Im now smog tech in nevada. Came from cali.
not to beat a dead horse but you might want to bone up on california laws before you say that the "gross polluter reference" has been done away with. it is alive and well...google it and you will see that it is still there on the CA BAR website.....not trying to call you out but here in cali it is a nightmare to get a vehicle to pass once it is labeled..I know as I have had a few of them over the years...anyway just some advice to all you California XJrs looking to smog anything over 10 years and or high miles...pay for the pretest first to avoid this.
