went through this issue with the '96 PCMs

suggest you either post a pic, or use Google to identify if you have OBD1 or II PCM

they are shaped slightly different

The 94-96 Parts Manual can be downloaded free, and will give you guidance on part numbers

There are rebuilders in USA that give matches x-references on part numbers, you have to search around with Google and Ebay

I very strongly recommend you put a "wanted" ad in the OZ FB Jeep parts group (there are a few)

its kind of essential you have a picture to be sure, but as I said, if it lacks an OBD2 port inside under the dash near yr left knee, it is not OBD2

thank you AWG,
My PCM is flat metal case with three plugs (like Wranglers) and yes I do have a port under the dash so assume it is OBD 11? from what I have seen 95 PCMs are vastly different and have only one elongated
plug socket??

My local computer guy took it apart and said there is a burned area inside
he is dropping it back on Monday so I will post a photo
Interestingly , we found the 30 amp green fuse was blown so we replaced that and after
hot wiring the relays at 85 to earth it fired up and ran
Somewhere in the grounding circuit must be a huge short which caused the burning I would assume?
My view now is I will get it going and then it goes permanently, I have had enough, and besides I have a classic
muscle car that I should be spending money and time on ,not to mention the waning years of retirement?
Paid 22k for the Jeep in 98 but the cost of keeping it running after 200,thousand is just one overpriced component after
another and it has to stop !

Not sure what it would cost to ship to AUS, but RockAuto.com has some for sale. I presume they would ship to AUS.

is the PCM a perfect rectangle, OBD2, or is it kind of 5 sided ? (OBD1 )

I havent heard of '95 built vehicles with OB2

If it is OBD2, probably only a '96 PCM will fit, I had a list of them and 56401 200 I think it may be an OBD2 part num

That is because '97 and later have an immobilser that interacts with the PCM

The '96 has no immobiliser

PCM are known to burn both capacitors and output driver semiconductors

a shorted wire can cause this

I would persist with slow research and just accept your vehicle is off the road until a solution can be found

a mate of mine who is an excellent and experienced mechanic, took away a '97 XJ from a top auto electricians cause they could not fix it for 1 year

he inserted a '97 PCM from a wreck and it was a goer

When I replaced my PCM I purchased one from Flagshipone. https://www.fs1inc.com/
I do not know if they ship overseas, but it may be worth a shot to inquire...

All of your posts are very vague, and sus. Just wondering what you can help with...what kind of Cherokee do you have?

This is the cause of my confusion perhaps stocks were altered for export to OZ and upgraded to OBD11?

the previous responders comment was not directed at you, but someone else that he quoted

The brass plate is what your vehicle is, a '95

there is some contention on when OBD2 was introduced, a lot of changes took place 95-96

What would clear it up 100% is clear pictures of the PCM itself
