update:: i tried using a bit on the back passenger side panel near the bottom. Since it was already fairly dark in color it was hard to notice but it DID turn it a darker black color. Now im not sure if it will stay since the plastic on the inside of the doors is a bit more slick i guess you could say, but later tonight ill try wiping it off with windex or something similar and see if it stays put.

I vote for removing them, they look better without it.

Another easy way to remove badges and glued trim is by using a heavy fishing line and 'sawing' off the pieces. It doesn't leave much adhesive behind either.

i just removed the trim from my xj...

i peeled quite a bit of the tape off with the moulding, but used a plastic scraper to get the majority of the rest of it off.

there was still a combination of sticky crap and liquid nails!? (previous owner obviously didnt know about trim tape)

the thing that worked for me was a paper towel and some laquer thinner.
what i did was use a soaked towel to dampen all the adhesive, then after letting it soak for a few, went back with another damp paper towel and scrubbed the heck outta the residue...
it took some elbow grease, but probably took a half hour tops.

also, the laquer thinner had no adverse reactions to the paint or clearcoat incase you were wondering!

I used black fusion paint on mine about a month and a half ago and they still look good. The can says its suppose to bond with plastic at the molecular level so in theory its not suppose to peel off.

To fully remove the tape/glue residue go to your local paint supply store and pick up a rubber eraser. They attach to your drill and make quick work of the left over tape/residue. Be careful with them though, because you can burn through your paint if you get it too hot. It get pretty messy too, so after all the tape and stuff is off you will probably want to spray your jeep off or wipe off all the dust.

Hope that helps!
+42 1/3 on the eraser wheel. I have debadged (3) vehicles by hand and finally got one of these. Expensive but love it.
