Default Washer fluid leak

2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport.

I noticed a decent sized puddle in front of the driver's side front tire. The washer fluid low indicator was on earlier this week as well.
How involved is it to fix the leak ?

While I'm at it, What is the function of the white light at the bottom of the brake lights. Ours are not lighted and I don't know if the bulbs are bad on both sides or maybe I just haven't found how to turn them on.

Thanks (Happy Holidays)

Do you mean your reverse lights?

As far as the leak goes you have to go in there and look.
One of the hoses could have come off one pumps.
The hose on one of the pumps could have sprung a leak.
Could leaking out of the grommets that the pumps go into to keep the reservoir from leaking.
Or the grommet for the low fluid sensor in there.
Maybe the pump itself could be leaking. Think I am kind of reaching on that one though.
Or worst case scenario the washer reservoir itself is cracked.
Find a video on how to replace a washer pump on an XJ.
That should show you what to do to see if it one of first 5.
Never taken a reservoir out but thinking shouldn't be too bad.

If the reverse lights aren't coming on when in (R), it's probably the NSS switch.

Thank you both.

To be honest I did not think to put the car in reverse when I was checking out the various tail lights. I'll test that out in the morning when it is dark.

I've watched a few YouTube videos related to the washed tank/motors. I guess the good news is that both the front and rear squirting mechanism works fine so the motors would seem to be ok. But having watched how to get at the tank I think I will wait for the next time I have the car in the shop and let them pull the tire and get up in there (they are a lot younger than I).
