I just changed my water pump two weeks ago. I used the following as a guide

http://jeepin.com/features/waterpump/2

Jeep service manual is better but some photos don't hurt.

Tips

1. remove ac/clutch fan to give you more room
2. before loosing belt loosen ac/clutch fan nuts and bolts on water pump pulley - opposing wrenches
3. water pump pulley was difficult to get off (rusted on despite no visible ruse)with out some screwdriver prying while spraying with pb blaster then letting it soak over night. Use screwdriver prying alternating with hammering with large rubber mallet.
4. razor blade the metal surface but upon closer inspection, despite it looking smooth, I had to spend quite a bit of time sanding with a flexible sanding block to see the true shinny metal.
5. little rtv (black/silver) with gasket
6. line up inlet tube before putting water pump on (worth mentioning)
7. put hose on before power steering bracket
8. use screw driver in between nuts to tighten ac/clutch fan bolts ( see my other posts)

Hope that helps - wish someone had made a list of tips for me before I worked on it.

Once again guys thanks for all the help. Got my new water pump and new thermostat in. Only had to remove the fan and power steering pump. Had one problem though. Didn't put the belt back on tight enough. Man that b*tch was squealing. I ran it and it was squealing bad and it was raining so I was trying to find somewhere to stop and tighten it and it died :/ weird. Not overheated. Then started right up after 2 minutes. Got the belt tightened and now it works fine. Anyone else have to tighten their belt really really tight???? Also my check engine light is on???

I just tighten mine till there is about 1/4 to 1/2" deflection when I push on it with my finger pretty hard.

Whatever works I guess. Do you see any side to side movement when looking straight down at the water pump pulley?

I will check that today. Would that mean I need to tighten it down more?

So went to autozone. Had them check my engine light. It said misfiring cylinder. Didn't know which cylinder. The guy said it could have been caused by my slipping belt. The light went off today and everything seems to be all good.
