Default Waterpump and thermostat housing leak out gasket

I replaced both gaskets and tightened them bout as tight as I could get with a 1/4 drive ratchet and the waterpump seeps at the very top just a tiny bit as does the thermostat my mechanic suggested ditching the gaskets and using right stuff? What's the fix here?

I used 1/8" on both sides of the thermostat gasket, around the bolt holes in it too... No leaks.

The mounting surfaces should be sterile clean in order for any gasket/sealer to work......and since both are aluminum, the bolts should be just snug to avoid cracking the metal and cutting/crushing the gasket. After re-cleaning the mounting surfaces, try new gaskets with a thin film of RTV on both sides and just snug on the bolts.

Put a thin film of RTV on the water pump and a thin film on the block. Slip 2 bolts thru the pump, place the gasket on the pump and carefully install the pump to the block. Run the bolts down finger tight then just snug with a wrench/socket.
