I say go for the lift- I am into my lift for a bit over $250 right now (not including the new tires) and have 3.75" front and 4.75" rear and could have gone cheaper (I did the RC 3" lift for $175 + BP for the rear along with spacer up front).
That also includes 4 shocks and new steering stabilizer. I also have parts I paid for that I did not use- if I were to do it again I may have just gotten the shocks and went for F150 or ZJ coils up front, can find those on Craigslist cheap or JY...

I cannot imagine doing a 4" lift for 150 bux.
I'd buy a d30 diff cover and gear oil with $150 and call it a day.
Or, put the $150 in your sock drawer and add to it over time...

For reference, 2.5" lift and terrain pic's...

that is some nice wheeling. i only suggest lift because i like clearance more then cheep paint. he could always cut up the fenders and put the money to some good used tires and that will get him some more clearance but whit the 2 options he gave i picked lift

i say go for some armor. you got the rails. thats great! now get a diff cover and save the rest for a real, good lift. and tires. plus all of us here can say that things are gonna breakk sooner or later, so better to have a little extra cash just in case.
i just finished breaking my 3rd tie rod so i finally spent the cash and got a HD one.

I'm not blowing $150 on a diff cover, I'll carry 20 spares for front and back and have spent less than on a super strong cover.

I ended up getting the lift, btw. It looks and feels great.
