Weird A/C problem
Hello everyone I'm having some A/C issues, and I havent found something on the forum that is similar to the problem I have. So here is whats going on:
1. Compressor is kicking in (once when you turn on the A/C and stays)
2. Block at firewall is icying up (I dont know the name of this part but both high and low lines connect to it then it goes to the inside of the car small square alloy or something)
3. Slight bubbles on the dryer3.
4. A/C not getting cold
I guess I dont understand why there is ice building up but its not getting cold?? I dont know what that part is called but its a block just before it goes to the inside of the car by the fire wall. both lines attach to this.
Anyone help please I'm dreadding the Texas heat with no A/C
Other things to take in consideration this is a R12 System and if in deed its low how do I recharge it? doesnt it have to have specific amounts and pressure?
Thanks in advance

If it's icing up at the junction block you're not low on freon. Someone else can chime in here but I think it's either a blend door issue, heater control valve problem, or a vacuum issue.

Thanks TJ, I'll read up on it FSM when I get home... so even tho its icing up it the R12 is low?
Also I have access to some r12 at a decent price, how do I refill it? and how do I know I've put too much or not enough? I guess that info will be on the FSM?
Does that other stuff you sent me really work (Freeze 12)? I would hate to be out a compressor if it doesnt mix well
Thanks for all help!

Checking your air flow is right on. Try it in Max AC. This recirculates the air. Make sure you try this after your coil is thawed out. If it is still frozen, it will not pass any air. If you can't get adequate air flow, you will need to fix it. There is another issue that is more likely. There is a pressure, temp sensor that kicks in and out the compressor. Since your compressor stays on I am thinking this is malfunctioning.

I think the compressor might be staying on because of the freon might be low..
Thanks for all the input I'll do more trouble shooting when I get home.

Put some gauges on it and check the system pressure. There's a possibility that you've got too much freon in it. That will cause the same issues also.

Just some brief background I drove the Jeep from San Francisco>Nevada>Arizona>Utah>Colorado>Kansas>Okla homa and finnaly to Texas.... all in 10 days... and when I got to Texas is when it stop working... it worked fine in all through the desert... maybe it was something to do with the Altitude change in Colorado that triggered something to go bad?

I tried it on max A/C. I guess I can turn it to heater then move it to that see if in deed something is frozen, but if so wouldnt it at least cool when I first start the jeep?
