The bottom torx screw for the IAC is a huge pita to remove. I found it much easier to disconnect the other 2 sensors from the TB, remove the top torx screw from the IAC, remove the 4 TB bolts, and once the TB was free, lift it up off the intake manifold, then remove the bottom IAC torx screw, that way you're not trying to fight with the fuel rail to get to that bottom screw. (Disconnect your 3 cables that run to the throttle linkage before lifting the TB off!)
Maybe it is different in the 97+ Cherokees, but if you get screwdriver-style torx heads, you can slip it under the cables and hoses and it renders any extra work unnecessary. Back to a 5-10 min project

Very possible that it is. I was using a torx key instead of a screwdriver, and while I could get it in the screw, there was barely any room to turn it.

Personal opinion, if you're going to do the IAC, do the TB while you're there, only takes another 2 minutes or so to take everything off, and then a few more to clean it out.

I had a similar problem. I cleaned the TB and IAC. No difference. I put a new IAC and TPS. No difference. I changed the MAP sensor and it runs like charm now. Funny thing is, no MIL. I even borrowed a DRB3 and everything checked out. When I unplugged the MAP sensor, it stopped surging!

hypermiling is a way to get more mpg out of your car u can search google about it you will find tons on it but heres a link explaining the basics about it

In that case, nope, cant say that I have. Seems like it would be alot more effective in a manual than an automatic though.

Also, and I realize I only read 1 article about it, so obviously I cant preach the gospel, it also seems like its more oriented towards hybrids, where they have an electric/gas motor they can change between with the push of a button.

With an unresolved death wobble, I don't do any highway driving right now with the XJ, and in town the gas mileage is pretty poor, but I'm willing to pay the fuel for the advantage of not being limited by the terrain !

no catty havent done it yet bc of the monsoons ive been having here lately rain would stop ill get my tools n everything set n down pour again lol monday is suppose to be hot n sunny so well see. and tsea its not at all towards hybrids at all its towards cars and trucks that dont get good gas millage at all. there is a guy who owns a 00 xj and he made a video of how it works n he got between 25-28mph with his xj wish i can find the video . but ya deff not towards hybrids at all bc they are made to get good mpg so there is no needs to hypermiling with them at all would be worthless

Gotcha, and yeah that does make more sense.

I've looked into similar things before, mostly body modifications to reduce the amount of wind resistance the vehicle creates through lowering, adding air-dams, side-skirts, basically anything to make the vehicle smooth to allow air to flow unimpeded across the vehicles surface.

My only concern would be, with a lifted vehicle running larger than stock tires, how much fuel are you realistically going to be saving?

I'll just stick to my XJ as my DD, and the 4-banger for road trips!

ya i understand what your saying and my xj is my dd as well when i moved to fl i drove about 360 on a full tank 20 hr trip only filled up 3xs total trip and this was hypermiling on the way back i didnt hypermile i got about 280-310 on a full tank just to see the diff and i would say it worked just gotta get use to it i guess lol and also i see im getting water on my drivers side now dont know how i dout its from when i made my doors removable bc i checked it out n its bone dry checked the hole i pull the wires thru n bone dry . only part thats wet its the bottom of my floor under my matt so im thinking its getting in from under the truck maybe the factory plug possibly ?
