Default Weird skid plate factory?

New member here! Looking at a 1995 XJ I'm helping a friend with. He had a '94 back in the day, loved it and just got another car.

His old one had what he describes as a 'trick' (when was the last time someone used that word?) trailer hitch that was factory and had a skid plate on the bottom of the hitch receiver. I've never seen that, but he claims it was a Chrysler part and has a drawing.

Anyone ever seen one of these skid plates?

The car's very stock and in great condition for its age, and he and I both like to keep them in as original condition as possible. I know that's no most folks, but we're weird that way. Also in search of any other accessories for the underside of the car that might have been factory.

My 90 XJ has a fuel tank skid plate, I've never seen a dedicated skid plate for the hitch.
There are quite a few of us with mostly stock XJ's.

I think the steel gas tank skid plate (not the plastic thing) and the hitch share some of the same mounting bolts at the rear. (If not someone will correct me) It that is the case maybe that is the confusion. I have never seen a factory skid plate dedicated to the hitch.

In the '96 and '95, they have steel tanks, heavy duty steel skid plate 4 x 3/4" bolts then the hitch has similar bolts tied vertically and horizontally into the frame via nutserts

These bolts can be a right pain to get out due to corrosion, use lots of anti-seize

pics are in the 94-96 Parts Manual

That's good information. Don't know where he got the Chrysler drawing, but it's for a tow hitch dedicated plate. Weird. I'll be on the lookout for the steel skid plate for gas tank that goes as far back as the hitch.
