You are going to be dragging a tire everytime you make a turn. Unless your Jeep is a trail only rig then you should NOT do it.

I"m guessing you have a 96 so you don't have a vacuum disconnect on the axle and you don't have locking hubs so the only place you disengage power to your front drivetrain is at the transfer case.
If you welded your diff up then both of your tires would turn at the same speed no matter what. So when you turned a corner your inside tire would have to chirp or bark to catch up with the other tire when your axles get all bound up. (this is on pavement) Gravel or dirt/mud is looser so your tires chirp a little easier.
If you had locking hubs or an axle disconnect you could weld up that diff then when you hit pavement disconnect so your tires wouldn't be all locked up.
that help any?

I wouldn't weld a front diff at all, selectable locker is better to turn on and off. I would only weld the front diff on a 4x4 if I was running strictly mud drags as the turning radius with a fully locked front diff would suck.
