When my dad was young, he and his buddy had a bet about what would happen if he put his 48 Packard in reverse at 60mph. My dad swore it would just slow down real fast. He lost that bet when the trans suddenly grew a 6" hole in the side and left a long oil slick on the road.

It's funny to find this thread and that I had commented in it after doing exactly this yesterday, but at 20MPH.
It still drives and no vibrations at 70MPH, but I do hear a tiny rattle which I need to check out when setting off.
