What axle do i have?
So I just got my build sheet from jeep and for the rear axle it says it's a 3.55 ratio and 175mm. So what is the 175mm? Also I know NOTHING about axles or gearing so I'd like it to be dumbed down as much as possible please.

You most likely have a Dana 35c since the Chrysler 8.25" in the XJ didn't start as an option until the '91 model.

That is a Dana 35. D35's usually were stamped Dana 35 on it. Also, it's an even oval shape. Google Dana 35 pics and compare. 175mm sounds really small, which the D35 is.

So for a dd with some moderate wheeling every once in a while would this be a good axle. Also what is the difference in axles? Again I know absolutely nothing about axles except names.

I was able to keep up with my buddies Cj that is locked front and rear. Mine was bone stock. Nothing broke. I've upgraded since then, you'll be okay...

The Chrysler 8.25 and Dana 44 axles are also ones that came on the Cherokee. Both of which are stronger than the Dana 35. And a question for more experienced members, is there an advantage to a pre-HO D35? (I heard they were non c-clip somewhere) But at any rate yes you'll be fine for what you mentioned there.

I can't recall what it stands for I wanna say "custom" but it means that it was an axle supplied by Dana unfinished to Chrysler for them to finish building to their specs.
