Guys, I was doing some work on the car last week and noticed these wires & connector which are not plugged into anything. I can't find anything that it could plug into, and nothing that isn't already connected. Ideas?

Is the grey one that's in between you heater hoses in the picture not plugged in also? Any codes or what not?Still running fine?

If no one pipes in I will look at mine when I get home and see where it goes if it does go anywhere that is.

Oh and junk that fram oil filter!

For comparative purposes, I just took a peel and Did not find a similar connector in that location on my 99 sport. Just the big black and big gray ones about 4 inches north and the connector to my oil pressure sending unit.

It might be for the Ignition (Coil) Capacitor. 2000/2001 XJ only. See pic.

Ha, the FRAM is a cheap temporary experiment. My car started dumping oil and caught fire last week. Once I know everything is OK again I'll swap it out. I have a Mobil ready to go.

The gray connector up top is plugged in. No codes or other issues.

Huh. I didn't see anything like that on the block, but I guess I need to get in there and take a closer look to make sure.

My 2000 don't have that and I looked every where. I wonder if it is under my dash somewhere?

I don't think you even have the harness/connector for it.

Is there a threaded hole in the head behind that throttle cable? My '99 has one. That's where the stud would be for the coil condensor.

I guess they're really not needed anyway. People have said their's are disconnected and there's no change in engine performance or radio noise because of it.

BTW: Your engine bay is too bloody clean. LOL

Nope, No threaded hole, hmm guess I don't need one

As for how clean the motor is, I need to thank the 0331 head for that.
This is a new Remanufactured motor from s&j engines with Clearwater head on it.
Only 11,000 on the ticker.

^^ That would explain why there is no threaded hole.

What is the date of manufacture of your XJ (month/year). Just curious if the coil condensor was introduced down the road in the manufacturing/assembly process.

It would be interesting to find out what the date of manufacture of the OP's 2000 is as well.
