Stock arms with the drop brackets will be fine. At 4" of lift I might skip the drop brackets and just go with adjustable upper and lower arms. The drop brackets really are designed for 4.5" or more of lift.

It's advised to get aftermarket boxed or tubular control arms if you plan to off road. The stock arms are not that strong. The rough country arms will do fine in your application. They are also a bit longer than stock so it would be good to get them instead of using the stock ones at that height. You can use the stock arms with the brackets though, just go easy on em
I think you need 4.5" to use those drop brackets, but i've seen a few use them on 4".

Using the drop brackets you give up some ground clearence becasue they hang lower and at 4" this is a disadvantage.
This is from Rubicon Express website
"XJ CONTROL ARM DROP BRACKETS
Part #RE9900
Cherokee control arm relocation brackets are used to relocate the upper and lower control arms approximately 3"
lower and 1/2" forward of their factory position. The reduction in control arm angle improves the lifted ride
and handling substantially. We recommend they be used in conjunction with the RE9905 support brackets on XJ
model Cherokees.
Recommended for 5.5" lifts."
And this is from Rough Country
"This kit is used to lower the upper and lower control arm mounting points when the xj is lifted at least 4.5". Lowering the arms mounting points reduces control arm angles and substantially improves ride quality and handling. "

I had a Rough Country 4.5inch lift in my xj and I scrapped the bracket for the control arm and bought the RC adj. track bar and I wish I had got one of the other ones with the poly bushings at both ends. They last so much longer. I also had the LCA's with my lift and would highly recommend them over drop brackets. even though the cost may be a little more its well worth it in my opinion.

So if I dont want to give up any ground clearence, I should just go with the ajustable upper and lower control arms then? Wouldn't the ride be more harsh and harder to control?

Right, it won't be harder to control but a little more rougher. You'll feel alot of the road inperfections and stuff like that.

If you want a good ride and great ground clearance then a set of Y arms or long arms will work great and ride great too.
