You get some good deals off these guys who don't know that noise is pretty normal.
Ask him if it sounds like a diesel when it's cold and wait for the hemming and hawing.
Good chance. I'm usually skeptical of looking at a vehicle that is already up to temp, but honestly I've seen more issues with the 4.0 that only happen at operating temp. OP said the temp stayed around 210 and had good oil pressure. Still possible the head is cracked, but if it's holding oil pressure at hot idle the block is likely in good enough shape.

He mis-spoke because his new car has 13x,xxx miles. Heres a pic:
What was it at hot idle?

Run, don't walk, from this XJ.
This particular XJ is a neglected POS whose owner didn't invest a penny into.
Didn't bother to fix a turn signal or window?

Either pay up front for a decent car, or constantly pay to repair a neglected POS that was dirt cheap.
You'll be at $3000-4000 one way or another.
Run because of a signal light and a window? Kind of like turning a super girl away because of a bad hair cut.

We obviously have different standards on what is important on a jeep.
My guess is if the engine starts, fluids look ok, no huge puddles underneat and runs great, it was probable warm cause batterie was dead and needed charging.

Or the seller still drives it. I always check if the clock is set when looking at a vehicle.

From that pic kinda looks like a coolant or transmission fluid leak at least.

Could also be brake fluid or the axle seal is leaking.

For 1K ? rust free ? buy it...everything can be fixed, rust is usually the killer. I paid 1K for a 91 2dr 5spd 4x4 and trailered it home 4hrs. Bought it and fixed just based of the very small amount of rust underneath..it was in much better condition than my 98..
enjoy!

Honestly don't understand all the overanalysis. For a grand.....buy it. Your description sounds a lot like most $3,000 '97-'01 XJs I see for sale around here. If your friend doesn't snap it up you need to post the location and contact info on here...I think it would go quick.

Exactly. I would pay a grand for it even if it had a blown engine, assuming it has no rust or dmv fees.
