I need to replace my flexplate, and Rockauto.com has two flex plates that look different. Does it matter which one I get? My Cherokee was manufactured in 1991, and the model year is 1992.
It blew my mind that there isn't a performance aftermarket flexplate for Jeeps. Especially when if you google "cracked flexplate", half of the hits are Jeeps. That's about to change. I'm building turbocharged super stroker LJ with an AW4 swap. I contacted every flexplate seller in the country to see if they could pull off a thicker than stock Jeep flexplate. I thought it would be a pretty simple job because the AMC V8 to 727 flexplates are almost identical. The only differences between the AMC flexplates and Jeep units are the converter bolt diameter and the ring gear depth. Same OD, same ring gear tooth count, same crankshaft bolt pattern. Well only one manufacturer is stepping up to the plate. Reactor Products. I just shipped out a stock flexplate on Friday for MR. Olan Teves to work from. It will be an SFI 29.1 Rated, aluminum flexplate with steel ring gear. It will be drilled for the 9.25" AW4 converter bolt circle but I think, in the future, we could have a universal unit drilled for the AW4 (9.25"), 32RH (10") and 727 (11.25"). Olan's flexplates typically sell in the $400 range. For now, Pioneer, ATP and old junkyard units are the only options. All of those will crack eventually, but by then, the Reactor units will be in stock and ready to ship.
I have one off my 92 or 96 or 2001...not worth shipping it to you but I just looked and every flexplate on rock auto for 91 or 96 or 2001 lists a number 53006324 no matter what model you buy...thats a number stamped on mine so it probably doesn't matter. I have another one somewhere and I know it has the same numbers stamped on it...I assume they are factory originals

A thicker steel ring for the CPS sensor windows might help. Slightly advanced in lieu of Cruisers mode would be a bonus too.
