What I have is in my sig. Was told they were 5.18, but said that was wrong and they were 6.18. Waggys dont offer 6.18, their lowest shows 5.89. Here's the setup now, tires 38.5, and with my gearing I show 2rpm at 55-60 and with my buddy helping with my death wobble, which I cured (go me!), it's right at correct at 35-40. It's od and shows semi low rpm it seems. When I speed up it drops 3rpm and speeds up slow, so I'm guessing I'm fairly low geared seeing I pull the big meats but speed up from 50-55 slow. How can I track down my gearing? I'm curious.

 

If they were changed by a previous owner and what you were told is incorrect, then the "only" way to know for sure is to open the diff and count the teeth on the ring and pinion.

lift the rear up . spin the rear wheels exactly one full turn and count the number of times the drive shaft spins.

 

I can do both, but I'll spin the tires tomorrow afternoon and count the spins. I'm leaning towards 5.18 gears.

 

i would hope with a AW4 and 38's you would have more gear than 5.18's........

 

shoot hes in 4 whd all the time if so hed have to jack the front and rear up and turn the tires to find his gears

I wheel with 37's and I have a 1st gear lockout since they are so low. I'm lost as far as gears, but they are low. I just want to know how low.

 

I'm going to count the teeth later today. I do know with 38.5 TSL's it's 2rpm at 50mph.

There's no 5.18 D44 gear. In the 5's there's 5.13, 5.38, and 5.89 only. I have 5.13's in my XJ.
