I have a stock 98 auto with 235's. If I could do 55 mph on the hwy with the windows up and A/C off I would get 20. But I'm thinking 16-17 in reality....

How are you people doing this? I am getting 14 HWY and about 12 city. I have a cold air intake, run a cold engine, have a throttle body spacer. I am running 31x10.5 on about 4.5-5.5" lift, but that is pretty much it. Is there anything else I can do to up my MPG

But then, it would stink to run out of gas while off road........So maybe the reserve makes sense.

TJ's came with 19 gallon tanks and 15 gallon tanks I believe. All the XJ's came with 20 gallon tanks. I was getting 17 mpg on my TJ (2" lift, 31's, 3:73 gears, 4.0, with a 5 speed) till a totaled it a few weeks ago, but that was if I was really easy on it. I just bought an XJ expecting it to get better gas millage than my wrangler but I took it from Indy to Ft. Wayne this weekend and only got about 14.5 mpg. I ordered some NGK v power plugs today. I plan on switching those out, running some lucas oil fuel treatment through the next few tanks of gas, and also plan on changing all the fluids. I did just put on a K&N filter but I seriously doubt to see any mileage gains there. Two other things I've heard a lot of people talk about are changing out O2 sensors, and running 89 octane fuel. I only have 67K on my XJ so I really doubt I need to mess with the O2 sensors, but I'm going to try a couple of tanks of 89 to see if the rumors are true. If the mileage gains out way the extra cost at the pump then I'll switch over to 89.

I refuse to calculate mine due to the inevitable gut wrenching number. I use to drive a diesel and could run forever on a tank full. lol
