That what I do too... When I went to buy oil, they had a special going for $15.00... 5 quarts of a selected oil and a selected filter... I happened to get Quaker State.

Do you hear banjos?
Valvoline 10W-40 is what I run in the XJ & my Metro. I run Mobil 1 full synthetic in my Titan and my wife's Maxima. I have thought about switching the XJ over to synthetic, but it has 190,000 miles, and I just don't know of a good reason to switch.

I too run whatever is on sale. Pep Boys had a sale for 5 quarts and a filter for $9.99 w/ a $10 rebate with a limit of two. So I got two, my wife got two and I got two more a week later. I'm set on oil for a while- rebates got mailed in with my address on two, my work address on two and her work address on two. :-) It was crappy store brand oil and a Fram filter, but hey it works, and other than the cost of postage it was free.

clean oil is good oil.
spend a bunch of money if it makes you feel better.
we run, basically, a tractor motor, built on Chrysler's assembly line.
change your oil regularly, run a good filter, and sleep well at night.
I run whatever Costco has... typically it's Chevron, a MotorCraft FL-1A filter, and swap it all out every 3000 miles.

10w30. I use cheaper oil, but then put substitute a quart of it for Lucas Oil Treatment. WORLDS of difference! i swear by Lucas for my oil changes. The lucas costs more than the oil, but oil, filter, and Lucas dont cost me more than $25.

X2 on the "tractor engine" analogy... you guys are making this much more complicated than it needs to be.
As long as it's slippery and flows, the name on the sticker doesn't matter. It's only going to be in there for 3000 miles anyway.

Valvoline Racing 20/50 It is made to be run hard in racing engines and if you burn a little oil, it will leave absolutely no deposits on the plugs. Of course I would never run that little Chevy hard
