I may understand why you have that username, because that question is fubar. You realize there are north of 20,000 parts in an average car? If you looking for a line-by line list, good luck. If you are curious about specific parts, might be better to ask the specific question. This is a very helpful crowd here if you ask the right questions.

Sounds like you have the opportunity to buy a parts car and want to know how many parts will fit the one you have, right? There are too many specific differences to speculate either way. Even though 3Dog is also a newbie, he's got better sense than to answer that question. What parts are you most concerned with?

3Dog is absolutely right, as an example I have 89 XJ and kept totaled 90 XJ for parts.

Just couple of differences:
  • Almost completely different brakes front and rear, except perhaps few hydraulic lines & rear cylinders maybe?
  • Both have Dana 35 rear and Dana 30 front axles, but they are still somewhat different axles! (one has ABS brakes with toners etc. and other has vacuum disconnect front drive shaft).

Okay, that makes sense. They tell me the bodies are different, but how so, I'm not familiar enough with the XJ yet to tell. I've only had my 2000 for about 6 months and only put 2500 miles on it. Having said that, the rear axle is probably a D35 on the 91 and your 99 is probably a Chrysler 8.25, but they both will work in either. Likewise the front axle on the 91 is probably a high pinion D30 while the 99 is a low pinion D30, again both will work, AS LONG AS THEY ARE THE SAME RATIO as the 99. The t/case will work weither it's a 231 or 242. I've been told the 99 still has a distributor so that should work. If the 91 has the AW4, that should also work.

As far as the body is concerned, IDK. I've heard at some point they switched from a fiberglass hatch to a steel one.

Okk my 1991 has a fibre glass hatch .what about front suspension n steering box wood that b the same as well n any idea on what if any difference in the intake/exhaust manifolds sensors as well... What does AW4 stand for??? Very inexperienced over here

From what I understand, I dont think much of the body would be compatible between 91 to 99. I think the 99 is a hp axle. The trans may be an aw4, but is i believe computer controlled, meaning electrical plugs would not work. Honestly, its probably best to sell the 91 as a whole car to drive, or for parts, then shop around for a 97-01 parts jeep.

hatch wont fit. Not much point keeping a worn out '91 suspension imo, as any replacement parts should be new, different manifold sensors, AW4 is an Aisin-Warner auto gearbox, fitted to many/most post 94 XJ

body styles changed in '97...but some or all parts of the front body panels are interchangeable

depends on whether you have space, and your general intentions

Yes, this is probably the best scenario. There is not much sense in using older parts to replace your 99 parts when you can get them by buying another jeep that's closer to yours for parts. I'd say for direct interchange with no messing around with electronics, you should NOT buy a parts jeep NEWER than 99 because the ignition changed to a coil rail and cam sensor, not a distributor, and the PCM was changed to support that.
