You can buy all this stuff still because it breaks so often so they still sell them a lot XD

What I wish someone would make is an extra thick shift boot and maybe some sort of metal from so we don't have to replace these things so often....

Then it would cost an arm and a leg. Like the metal JRC bracket that goes under the center console

BUT IT WOULD NEVER BREAK XD.

also I like JCR but man that's some overpriced stuff... rather just have a nice fab guy copy their photos for half the price.

You ain't kidding there. It's $50 for that thing.
I got lucky when I was buying some heated seats for my Jeep.
Just as I was walking away I spotted it, some guy was parting out his Jeep, and knew what it was.
Asked him how much and he said $20 so I grabbed it. I though mine was OK but figured what the hell.
The best part is when I took out the console to run the wiring and put the switches in for the heated seats and found this.

Did not even realize it was broken cause the console seemed pretty solid.

OK well NEWS UPDATE - that lower boot arrived and I'm loving it. It's really thick and sturdy and has a hard internal ring, probably metal, to mate it down to the floor. It was tricky to jam it down in there and I'm not sure all the bolt holes are going to line up, but I'll make new ones if I have to. Stupid question, is there ANY chance someone has a diagram somewhere that would say what size/thread pitch the screws that are supposed to go in there are? Figure I could pick up 4 of them and try it, but if not, I'll just get some self-tapping screws and make new holes. This is clearly going to make a BIG difference - thanks again all!!

You need to remove the whole center console piece, just jamming it under there is not going to do much

UPDATE - got the lower boot in and it is a TREMENDOUS upgrade. I was able to shove it in place without removing the console (probably because my console was attached at NONE of the correct places but just screwed into the transmission hump here and there) but I did have to remove the console to access it enough to screw it in. The holes didn't line up on my 95 but seemed fairly close, so I just drilled new ones.

The difference is NIGHT AND DAY. It is SO much more pleasant to be in the jeep now - I can hardly even hear the exhaust leak anymore! (Maybe I'll deal with the header install next week.) And in the summer I can look forward to the console not becoming too hot to touch from all the hot air coming right up under the shifter. I can actually hear the motor and exhaust in a good way - it's just a fantastic quality-of-life improvement. SO - if your lower shift boot is compromised, do something nice for yourself and replace it!! You'll be glad you did.
