Default What spline?

Have a 96 xj. Made on 8/26 of 96. I know they changed the spline count like 1/2 way threw the year. Do you think It's a 29 and i lucked out? Thanx for the input.

Doubtful but only real way to tell is to pull a shaft or search the BOM number, pretty sure they have them.

Same question from me. I have a 2WD w/o ABS made in August '96. I'm hoping it's got 29 so I can swap it onto my 4x4. But I'm not convinced it's 29. I tried counting the splines when I had the diff cover off to change the oil, but I kept losing count. And it's not easy to do that way in the first place.

I wonder what that BOM number was that he was talking about. I got a number off the axle. Sure would be nice to know if I could cross-reference it with something! "Build" OF MANUFACTURER number?

Nevermind. Found the answer to THAT question:

B.O.M. is for "Bill of Materials" which represents the parts used to build specific rear ends. Made by Dana. Please see ExampleA. Check your parts and application on the net at http://www2.dana.com/expert/.

Might be of limited use to us since we're not looking up a Dana. But I'm on a mission. Maybe the number I got CAN be cross-referenced to some available Chrysler database?
