the next step from the dana 30, would be a waggy d44 front. that will take a good amount of work, and is by no-means a "Bolt in" swap. plenty of welding etc...
the dana 30 is plenty strong to run 31"s, and with a little upgrading, its plenty strong to run 33's (297x Joint shafts)
and with alloy shafts and 760x joints, the dana 30 is plenty strong to run 35"s.. of course.. thats with re-gearing, etc..
re-gear the dana 44 and 30, and your set. the weakest link in a cherokee is the dana 35, and you got rid of it!

High pinion is better.
stock gearing ranges.... all automatic 4.0litre Cherokees had 3.55 gears. and the manual 2.5 4cyl had 4.10 gears. the 4.10 gears are a decent improvement for the automatics.

4.0 manual cherokees didnt have 4.10s they had 3.07 the 4 cylinders had a higher gear not poistive on what it maybe 4.10 but dont quote me on that i would stick with the dana 30 and get a set of 4.10 gears dont cheap out on your gears either they are very important ive always had good luck with yukon gears they are easier to set up then some of the cheaper gears to because they are built with tighter tolerances they arent the best but a good settlinging point if youve never set up gears before i dont recomend you do it by yourself get someone whos done it before to show you how or take it to a good shop

a 30/44 combo, even without upgraded shafts or anything else for that matter, is plenty stout for 31s. I'm running 260x u-joints in my 30 on 33s and have never broken one, I just have to replace them once a year.. gotta get new shafts eventually.
