Hey all. I'm attempting to install a better stereo in my 90 xj. I would like to know the best place to go in the fuse panel to get 12 v regardless of the key position. Thanks.

If you want it hot all the time I would run power directly to the battery with an inline fuse.

Just redid the wiring in my boat. IIWY I'd get a marine kit from somebody like Kicker (altho I used a cheaper brand). Use 4 or 8 ga wire-- see what your stereo requires.

Is your amp stand-alone? You can have that hot if your actual stereo is what turns it on.

The stock radio already has a "hot all the time". It powers the clock and keeps the station memory. Not sure which wire, but you can probe for 12V.

Depends on what you mean by better. High power, I'd run a new wire. Otherwise use the existing wire.

Thanks guys. I'm installing a classic pioneer cassette/radio where the stock radio goes. I'm having to pull 5 wires through the dash to the unit with an external amp that will sit between the driver's seat and the door (that's the only place I can find to put it). I will need 12v to the amp and I was just trying to get it without adding another wire through the dash. There's hardly any room in there. There's a 9v signal wire that I'm using to power the amp on. I wired a standard jeep relay to do that. I just want to run off the fuse panel since it's closest to the amp. I'm trying to keep from running wire through the firewall because I've had wiring problems where they have shorted out because they don't have a grommet where they go through.

If its a high power amp, I would use the hole in the firewall, grommet it, and run a fused, labelled wire from ( a secondary terminal setup near the battery)

As you already have a hole in the firewall
