Hey, all. I'm new to this and just bought this XJ about a month ago. Currently working on getting everything back into shape. She runs and drives great but makes this terrible noise upon start up (see link below). Typically, this sounds last much longer and is significantly louder. I haven't noticed any changes in power, acceleration and it usually goes away after a while. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hard to tell what's going on. Is the engine on already or are you starting it and then the noise comes on?

My guess is the AC is turned on, the compressor kicks on, whines and along with the auxiliary fan sound. Just a guess.

Get a mechanics stethoscope and listen around. Make sure not to get the stethoscope caught in the belt or the pulleys.

Yeah, I think I've narrowed it down to that it is the compressor kicking on. Should this really be an issue?

Check the fan belt tension and condition. Try cranking it with the ac turned off and see if it still makes the sound. If it doesn't then the belt tension/condition is what you want to check first.
