yeah, the latest photo looks like it has a metal spring over wrap, thus a capillary type temp sender is likely, which will be aftermarket accessory gage sensor.

He said in his original post that he had followed the connection at the back of the gauge to the sensor in his pic. The tip of that sensor looks like the one for the PCM on my '96. Haven't seen a pic of a replacement one that even closely resembles his. It does look like it's for a mechanical gauge.

99.99% sure it is a "Now not used" aftermarket temp gauge set up.
Previous owner probably hooked it up to get an accurate temp reading then realized the original elec one needed to be hooked up for everything to func properly ??
