Where is the power mirror wire harness under the carpet?
I installed the power mirrors on my 96 Sport today. They plugged right into the wire harness inside the door. Unused connectors were just there waiting for this. When I got the mirrors I also got the four way console mounted switch, connector, and a good section of the harness. I cut it out of the donor as it went under the carpet to the right of the console. But I cannot find that harness in my own XJ. Mirror end of the harness just plugged right in. But I cannot find the switch end of the harness. I figured it might be tucked under the carpet somewhere. I have not taken the whole carpet out, just pulled up the open edges under the console and in the footwells as best I could. No luck!
If any of you have removed your carpet and found a flat connector, that might be a clue for me.
Anyone run into this?
I was hoping for a complete plug and play project. If not I will build my own harness, since the door wiring is already there, but gets lost in the wires behind kick panels, I was hoping to find the other end with the connector for the switch. It's got to be somewhere!

Never heard of an XJ with wiring that went right under the carpet, except air bag control module... everything I've seen from the driver's door either goes along under the trim by the door sill or along the firewall and under the dash.

Sal-
I know its weird, but my 96 has two bundles from the kick panels going under the carpet and crossing the trans hump just under the heater duct/console connection. They probably fired the engineer by 99 when yours was built.

What does the switch connector look like?
Can you post a pic?
When I took the carpet out of my 96 Sport I found a two prong connector with a red and a black wire that went to nothing. The seat belt electrical connector was about a foot further down the harness.

Solved
Thanks for the details. I found an even weirder situation that led to the solution. The mirror wires enter the harness inside the door. Good and easy. When they come through the jamb boot behind the kick panels the wires come out of the harness and enter shared multi wire connectors. They go in one side, but there were no wires coming out the corresponding locations on the other side. Just blank holes. So that is where the mirror harness ended. I just clipped the wires off the connectors and fabbed up my own harness from there. One for each side merging under the console at the switch mounted by the hand brake. The power and ground wire from the switch I patched into the cig lighter connections. Figured that is a good 12v switched and fused power source.
Thanks for the observations. Seems like there are wiring changes every model year or more frequently. And no schematics for many of these oem options.
