Default While changing a pinion bearing.

I'm not actually going to do this myself because it seems difficult and requires tools that I don't have. My real question is, when the shop is in there what else should I have them replace? Is there anything besides just the pinion bearing and the seal for it, such as another bearing that would be a good idea to just have them throw in while they've got it all apart? It is the front differential btw.

If there were metal shavings in the oil I'd change them all while you have it apart. 50/50 you'll be in there again soon otherwise.

I had a pinion bearing go out in my 94's d30... If i remember right there are actually 2 bearings supporting the pinion shaft. It was a while ago I could be wrong, but I changed it myself and it was pretty easy. you just need access to a shop press to press the bearing onto the shaft. If there were metal shavings in the gear oil, the ring & pinion gears will probably eat themselves eventually though... Mine had shavings but it was wrecked 5k miles later, so all I can say is it held up for 5k miles lol

EDIT: I remember now, there are 2 bearings... one is pressed into the d/s side of the diff case (or hammered in with a socket on the outside race, as I did) and the other is pressed onto the pinion shaft. Diff obviously needs to be removed... you'll need a prybar & some muscle to get it out, and a very sincere prayer or some loud swears to get it back in
