white smoke from under the hood at times
I've been having this issue for months now, but I've only been slowly narrowing it down. Under the hood, I get white smoke billow out for about 5 seconds when I try to park. I've only seen this happen while moving, then reversing, then moving forward again. Or some combination where reverse is used. Sometimes it DOESN'T smoke while doing this! No overheating. No knocks. My 99 xj runs just fine; I drive it hundreds of miles on the highway with no issues!
I had a cracked ex. manifold so I replaced it with no change. It smells like coolant but the reservoir has not lost much if any fluid over the course of a few months. Transmission fluid is tannish, but not burnt smelling or dark and it shifts quite smooth. I'm kinda lost here.

Seem,s like your having issues to me....
Tanish trany fluid IS BURNT trany fluid. is dip stick TUBE wet? How much oil is leaking from the valve cover and rear main? Could just be a drip on the manifold or exhaust. Coolant smells tend to point to coolant leaks or running a bit hot. Check T-stat.

Yes. I still haven't swapped out my valve cover gasket yet and it definitely leaks...
