who has fixed their heat soak problem
Who here has fixed their heat soak problem? I have searched this issue to death and have read several different ideas. I just have not seem many follow ups from people with solutions that worked. I have read about vents in the hood, a timer on the fan and heat shield over the fuel rail and injectors. I basicly know all the general fixes, just want to see who made them work. BTW I really like the fan timer but I wonder about the instalation and the wear and tear on the fan over time. I think I am going to try the heat shield over the rail and injectors this weekend.

first off, do a search for heat soak when engine warm. After you do that, the Technical Service Bulletin from MoPar says to put short pieces of insulation on the number three injector. I've done this to my '95, and it is a lot better than it was, but not totally gone. On my Daughter's '97, it was a total remedy. She is a happy girl now. My friend has a '05 TJ that has a factory heat shield mat on top of the intake manifold, I can only think that this is for keeping heat off of the injectors also. I had to do a lot of research, and monitor the forum for months before I got information that would help me. Others say that plugs, wires, rotor, cap, and coil may also be at fault also. Mine were almost new, so I had to continue researching until the Technical Service Bulletin appeared. Good Luck, let us know how it turns out.

Thanks but believe me, I have researched this to death. There are a ton of idea and attempts but that seems to be where it all ends. Many or most of the things I have read, not just on here but around the web leave very little follow up or feedback. I have read that TSB on almost every thread and someone always directs to it. I just want to see if any of the solutions actualy result in success. I have seen most of the ideas of how to fix it, I just want to know what worked. This will benefit a lot of people on here.

Ok so what I am learning that this is a mixed bag of results. I do not have a misfire just a rough low idle and a hard start in the afternoons. Although I have discovered that by just turning the key to the on position for a few seconds before actualy firing it up seems to start it a little easier. I still have a lower rough idle than I care to have but it runs great. Think I will try the heat shield idea this weekend and see if that helps. I would still like to hear some success stories because I still feel this could be a great resource for other members. I realize there are plenty of threads on this subject but none that realy give real success stories.

I have never had a problem with my 1996 as I bought it with the vents in the hood. Thats the only thing I have to fix that and never seen a problem yet. As for you last message, sounds like your fuel pump is getting weak or your fuel filter is getting clogged. I suggest changing that if you haven't already. I keep mine changed quite regularly to prevent problems with my fuel pump.

I have had my 01 Cherokee going on 2 years come summer. The injector heat soak issue was driving me nuts too. I decided to remove the aluminum/glass heat shield which was sandwiched between the injectors and the manifold. This solved the heat soak issue for me so it wasn't necessary for me to sleeve injector #3. Go figure!

A view from the dealership...
I have the worst heat soak you could ever imagine. I originally started off with just a cylinder 3 misfire a year ago and didnt have a "Hot Soak" then I moved to Florida and drove the jeep straight through with very short and minimal stops and ever since then my jeep has never been the same. I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I started off with having a terrible shift solenoid which was then fixed and then ended up with this absolutely terrible Hot Soak.
I have changed all spark plugs, changed the fuel rail , changed the 02 sensors and I was also told that I had a bad Catalytic Converter. The cat was cut out to find out that it was not clogged what so ever so I had them just throw a straight pipe on it. The first week or so it actually seemed to work better so I had the codes cleared and within 9 miles of driving the Check Engine light came back on and it was acting rough and the C.E.L was flashing! Ever since then Ive been dealing with this terrible issue. I myself have done extensive research to find things that people have tried, and it just minimized the issue.
Yesterday, I went to A Dodge,Chrysler,Jeep Dealership and explained to them my issue. Needless to say they agreed with me that I have the Hot Soak. So I asked them how I should go about fixing it or if they can fix it for, and what they told me was a depressing outlook. The words that came out of the Service Advisors mouth was " To be completely honest with you there is no possible way to fix Heat Soak, we follow the exact bulletin protocol that Chrysler supplies us with and there is no guarantee that It will be fixed. Every jeep that has come in here with that issue has returned to us multiple times because the issue can not be fixed. We would be glad to do it for you but there is absolutely no guarantee that it will be fixed"
Such a grim outlook that was...
They printed out the step by step protocols to fix it, i can either take a photo or scan it and upload it if anyone is interested in seeing that. But yeah...
Im actually curious to know if its possible to switch out the bad intake manifold and put a pre 2000 in it instead?!? Since thats the issue. On top of that I hear the heat shield causes a "Heat Sink" meaning that if you have a Heat Shield it will only make the situation that much worse...

One other thing I do besides the heat shield and wrap is To open the hood before I shut off the engine when its hot. If I'm going to be in the grocery store for 45 minutes, I open the hood, then turn the engine off, give the engine compartment 30 seconds, then close the hood.
