Why did this happen, Can I prevent it in the future?
Driving down the road and the heep started to run like garbage. When I stopped to see what was wrong it just died. The day before I had put all new plugs and wires in. Ironically enough I was on my way to get the distributor rotor and cap because I didnt have the cash. So I pulled off the cap and sure enough the rotor had sheared off all the metal and fallen apart. On the side some of the plastic had melted and there was a mark on one side of that tab that sticks out like it had spun out of alignment and whacked a electrode in the cap or what ever you want to call it. Has any one had this problem? Is is as simple as I wasnt careful enough? I've heard of people gluing down the rotor in marine applications to prevent it from sliding upwards, any one else do or suggest this? Also a complete tune up of all of these things was only done one year ago.

i have heard of it. you could use a bit of silicone to hold it in place. i dont know where the parts came from but i would recommend getting them from NAPA or you local dealer. the other guys are cheap and dont seam to last as long or work as well.
