Default Why do I have tranny fluid draining out of my bell housing?

I have a 1989 Cherokee Laredo and a couple days ago it just started leaking tranny fluid from the bell housing. and its not a drip here or there. i lose all my fluid in a matter of minutes. i was told it could be the torque converter seal or a pump seal but don't know. Anyone have some insight as to why this would start happening? also it only leaks tranny fluid when the engine is running whether idling or driving. I like my jeep so far but as a dd if i can not get it resolved soon i will be forced to scrap it. Please

Sounds like the pump seal blew. Start pulling the tranny.

Yup the seal is dead. Take down the tranny, take off the torque converter and replace the seal on the tranny. When you put the torque converter back in spin it around while in the tranny so it can go all the way in. If not you might brake the oil pump in the tranny.

Sure. to be honest if you pull the tranny now and have it out i would pull the pan, put on a new pan seal and filter.... put on a new tail shaft seal and fill with new fluid.. I would drain the torque converter and refill. I think they hold close to a gallon in the converter alone.....

Yes, replace both seals. While your in there double check the torque converter where it goes into the seal, if its all torn up your new seal will be destroyed in no time.

Input shaft seal. There is a pump only in automatic transmissions.

X2, assuming it's not engine oil you're seeing in which case start looking at the oil filter adapter and valve cover before suspecting the rear main seal.
