why stripped speedo gear

Default why stripped speedo gear
So I put in a sye kit on my tcase (np231). Everything worked good and then my speedometer stopped working after a couple weeks. Pulled the gear and it was stripped as well as the gear that slides onto the new shaft. Before I pu the new ones what would cause this to happen? Thanks

didyou install it backwards on the sye shaft.

I'd guess that it wasn't meshed well enough. Is it completely stripped or is it stripped on one side?

Theres marking on speedo drive that correspond to count of teeth on gear. That need to be installed in correct direction on tail housing.

Good question on the right position. Which way do the numbers face? Does the correct number go towards the front of the tcase or the back?
