he was using the correct tow point, otherwise the bumper would have ripped off. that vid has moved around the nets super freaking fast.

It would help if the tard in the pulling vehicle was'nt standing on the throttle.

i'm thinking they strapped to the tie rod links, judging by the way the tires immediatly started pointing at eachother, which is what would happen if you hooked in the middle of the tie rod link. if you think the propper tow point will result in either your axle pulling out, or steering linkages pointing at eachother thats a little strange.

after watching again, it also broke the ball joints. they hooked on the axle somewhere.

If they hooked onto the axle then the axle wouldn't end up underneath the jeep

wow, lots of expereinced wheelers postin here i guess. i say steering linkage or near by. and the axle barely stayed under the jeep.

and i just saw the guy hanging off the back. there are some dumb wheelers out there. they are lucky whatever they hooked to kinda stayed under the jeep and no one got killed by flying suspension parts, or falling off a jeep and having it fall on them.

moral of the story is, this is why expereinced wheelers harp on proper recovery.

In no way did i mention that this was a proper way to recover a vehicle, i just made a statement that I did not believe it was attached to the axle.

that video makes it look way different. i retract a lot of that, my only problem now is the guy hanging off the back.

that poor poor jeep...just over this past weekend i saw a guy at a local off road park with a brand new jk wrangler he just got the week before. it was bone stock and got stuck really deep with no tow points. the guys pullin him out hooked up to his class 1 reese tow hitch, and it ripped it right off... next was the rear bumper which didnt stand a chance then finnally, by a stright miracle, they hooked to up his track bar and got him out...

it WAS attached to the bumper. the mud held the axle in place and ripped the jeep over it while the axle stayed stationary

In the video you can clearly see both tires of the front axle under or partially under the jeep. If they strapped to the axle or steering, the axle would not end up in that postion.

Your experience overwhelms me oh wise one.

Like RDK_YJ88 said, if it had been tied to the axle, the axle WOULDN"T have been under the XJ....
