Question Will a 1998 XJ dash cluster work in a 1998 SE?

Hello, I currently have a 1998 SE, with the idiot light dash cluster. I'm wanting to replace the idiot light dash cluster with a gauge one. I saw a same year dash cluster that has gauges, but its for an XJ. I looked all over and could not find an answer as to if they are compatible. I would assume they would be but just wanted to know if anyone knew.

Thanks.

Is your 98 SE an XJ? If it is then yes, the other 98 XJ will swap right over. The mileage is stored in the cluster so write it down for state inspection. If the new cluster reads lower, they may have some questions.

SE is the trim level (the same way Limited, Up Country, Laredo, etc. are used). XJ (or "regular" Cherokee/not a Grand Cherokee) is the platform.

Is your 98 SE a ZJ (Grand Cherokee)? If it is then no, the cluster is different. We need to know which platform you have. XJ or ZJ. I found images for both using Google images.

It is an XJ, I did not know that XJ just mean essentially "jeep Cherokee", until after i read another post just now. as it is not a grand Cherokee, but a 1998 jeep Cherokee SE. The top dash cluster that is labeled XJ looked exactly like the one that is in mine, and the one I am considering buying. Except of course the one that is in mine right now has idiot lights. I just did not know if the different trim options like XJ and sport, classic, etc... would be compatible with different trim dashes. But now knowing that XJ means jeep Cherokee I suppose that pretty much answers my question.

I just sold my 97 Country cluster to a member here for the same swap. This is a good video on the topic.

Will I have to get new sensors for the temperature and oil? I would assume that a idiot light cluster panel would only have a switch, and not a sender.
