I would look into the child switch problems that I was describing earlier. Often enough the child switch is faulty and doesnt work properly causing the passanger windows etc not to work. You can bypass this or try and clean it out very good and mess around with the switched while the panel is off.

I own an 87 and every time i roll my window down i have to help the motor out on getting it back up, so i never roll it down all the way. I have heard that adding an extra ground strap to all the window controls helps the motor out tremendously but i have yet to go that route.

Default Window problem

Ok i tried the window safty switch fix with splicing the wires together and now my saftey switch just dosent work but the window motor still wont work when i push the window switch up. The motor works when i push the switch down, and the motor worked up and down on the drivers side door so its not the motor. It either has to be the switch or some wiring some where i guess. What should i do any ideas? Im not so good when it comes to electrical but i really want to get this fixed. The window motor wont do anything when i try and operate it from the drivers side so im not sure whats up. If anyone could help me any that would be great thanks.

I may have missed it since I skimmed the thread. You said that the passenger side switch doesn't work either?

Default Window problem

It works when i push the switch down just dosent work pushing the switch up. Do you think its the switch itself. Im not sure where i can get one of those i'll have to go to a jeep dealer. I wonder if they will let me just plug it in to see if it fixes it before i buy it. What else could it be?

I'm not 100% on sure on how the wires are routed... I'm assuming that since both switches don't work that the switch isn't the problem. I would check the connections at the motor. Then work backwards from there. Get a good multi-meter and start at the motor.

I checked the motor connection and the multi-meter jumps when i push the swith down but dosent do anything when i push the switch up. So the passenger side works going down and the drivers side dosent work at all. Would that still be a wire somewhere i guess?

Ouch, sounds like some serious wiring issues. Surely it's just a loose plug somewhere. Start tracing...

Default Window Problem

Alright well i dont know what else to check for wiring. Does anyone think it may just be the window switch? Would that cause it to only go down and not up and not be operational from the drivers side door. I want to go just buy a new switch but want some advice to if that could even be the problem. Any help? Thanks

Still sounds as if it is safety related. But the down and not up is the key here. The purpose is to keep kids from catching their fingers in the up rising widow. It is also to keep them from unlocking the doors from the inside.
If it were me I would keep tracing that up dead wire back to the next plug then the next plug until you reach the point that has power. It may be in the safety circuit or the actual switch circuit but tracing it is all anyone could do. Whether it is you or an electrical engineer. You have got to find where the power stops and fails to reach the window switch. Sorry to not be able to say do A-B_C and you will have solved the problem.

Default Window Problem

Ok guys i really need help. SO i bought the window switch and of course it still dosent work. I traced the wires all the way back to the drivers side door. WHich got me thinking. Well when i try and put the window up from the drivers side, the passenger side light in the switch goes out. Could it be that the drivers side switch iss actually bad even tho everything but the passenger side switch works. Also when i put my window down the day it stoped working it was from the drivers side door. Dose anyone know if power goes through the drivers side before it goes to the passenger side. If anyone could help me I would really appreciate it. Im totally lost with this electrical and cant really afford to pay $500 for some jeep mechanic to trouble shoot the problem. Thanks in advance.

It has nothing to do with the passenger side switch, Im telling you its the child switch plug that is loose. Either bypass it or make it as tight as possible.
