Default Window trim plastic coating peeling

I was wondering if anyone has found a decent looking fix for the black plastic coating which cracks and peels off the exterior window trim. The chrome underneath looks horrible when the rest is black. For a short term 20 foot fix I
just painted over it using a Sharpie. The more I mess with it more of it falls off. The pieces in the JY were just as bad or worse than what I have.

Thanks

IMHO... it probably has more to do with the fact that the newest XJ is almost 20 years old now.... and that's a lot of time under the UV rays of the sun baking stuff.

it appears to be some form of anodizing, our hot sun is doing a job on it

my suggestion would be to mask off and spray with matt black (cover the rest of vehicle with blankets)

otherwise, strip to bare metal, prep and paint matt black, possibly following removal from vehicle

What's peeling off on my 89 looks and feels more like plasti-dip to me. I touched up with some of the leftover harbor freight bed liner (same as duplicolor I think) from when I did the floor pans.

I had the same problem. I went to a salvage yard and went and found some off of a newer jeep and just replaced them all. Sometimes they can be hard to find but it took care of it annoying me.

Default Help finding replacement.

98 XJ 4 dr. I stripped and repainted with plasti dip and they came out good. But 0ne of the metal exterior window trims came off on the road somewhere. Need to replace and cannot seem to find the part. Not exactly sure what all of these trim pieces are called (trim? Molding? Frame? ). Tried many searches and cannot find a replacement (new, used, OEM, replacement- whatever). Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!
