Default Window won't go down or up, window regulator?

I was driving on my way home today and while I was rolling up my window I heard a loud crack/snap. I looked over at my window and my window stopped half way up. I pulled in at the next gas station and my window was all the way down, I never noticed it go down. When I press the button to go up or down you can hear it trying to roll the window all the way up or down but it doesn't move.

That blue tube/wire is what the problem is (obviously) but I'm not sure what it plugs into or attaches too. The tip of it goes in and out when I press the button up and down. A local mechanic told me I would need a new window regulator and the price of one of those is $169.99. That's far too much for me.

When I took the door panel off, this is what I found:

My vehicle is : 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport SE, 4.0L I6 - 4 Door
btw this is the driver's window if that makes a difference.

Thanks,
Kyle

And that's all I would have to buy? I saw that on-line when I was searching but I figured I'd get more opinions.

Thanks for mentioning it.

Thanks for mentioning it.

On my 2000 one window was studdering and the other went down and never came back up. Bought this kit and did EXACTLY what it said-(its a little grinding and notching). I did make sure that the motors worked but when I removed the door panel that blue end was just laying in the door. Its a little 2 page direction that I tried to take a shortcut with it and ended up costing myself about 45min. He made the directions that way for a reason.

Your paying $40 for basically the metal coil !! BUT he did have to have the design and it manufactured so your actually paying him for his brain. I even ordered another 3 months back when my drivers window acted up.Just not installed yet.

At first I also waited for opinions then just said hey 40 let me try it. If you look at the plastic piece that they used from the factory you gotta belive --its just such a cheap POS.

And sure hopefully someone else will chime in with their .02.
