windscreen
Picked up a huge #$%&* rock in the windscreen a couple of days ago. Great big 'bullseye' right in front of the passenger. No cracks as of yet, but the damage is way too big to repair I fear. I have been looking for replacement windshields...with no luck save for some redchinese crap from safelite. That simply will not do.
I did a 'search' , but didn't find much of anything recent. Anyone have a good source for the glass? And what about the mouldings? I have looked in every corner of the internet that I could find, called my dealer and asked them to look at 'Obsolete Chrysler' or whatever its actual name is , and have come up empty handed. Can't see how those mouldings can realistically be removed and reinstalled and still fit/look decent even if they would come out in one piece. Vehicle is a 95 2 door that i have an inordinate affection for; I want this done correctly but having a dickens of a time finding parts. Any help/guidance/direction/ wisdom out there?

Yes Mr 3dog, that would be preferable, but even the most "aggressive" repairers say that the limit is damage about the size of a quarter. [approx 1" diameter] This damage is about twice that size - I am amazed that it didn't shatter the windscreen quite frankly. Wish I could repair it, but don't think it will prove to be feasible.
I plan to begin looking for a really good, used OEM glass next week - I know, good luck with that - but am still concerned/befuddled about the mouldings. Some things I have read would indicate that one can use the 97-up rubber seal and it will function fine, just not look 'right'; any advice / experience here with taht. Anybody have a brand new OEM glass with all the mouldings sitting in their garage that they would like to find another home for?!?
[btw - great photo/avatar Mr 3Dog... ]

Used glass should be fine
I am surprised if XJ screens are not available new, have you rung the largest nationwide suppliers ?
I picked up NOS mouldings on eBay, I think they may have come from USA
For the best job, you need them. They dont do much sealing as I recall. mainly cosmetic, but getting the screen out ruins them
The screen is adhered by urethane to the lip.
It pays to make 100% sure that no bare metal or especially rust is left, it is not a job to be rushed, getting the old urethane trimmed down
To cut them out, I use wound steel guitar strings and leather gloves, working inside and out, you need a few, as they can break, about .030 is optimal (wound D or A strings)
Unless you have done a few before, refitting is a 2 man, or pro job, they do it in your driveway

The glass is available, but its redchinese crap, not OE or even quality aftermarket. Looking for the good pieces.
Never thought of ebay for the mouldings - thanx, will look. I assumed that they were mostly cosmetic as I know the glass itself is urethaned in. Assumed the mldgs would be ruined by removal...
Next problem is finding a quality glass shop that will take the time once I gather parts. If I could get my hands on whomever is responsible for this...

I got my windshield replaced last week. The only difference between the new one and the old one was one was busted and one wasn't.
Since there was no difference I assume that whoever made it was using original ChryCo molds.
ChryCo made the XJ in Toledo Ohio, Argentina, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Venezuela. China was the last to quit making it, 2014.
Since there was no Made in USA sticker or PPG label on it, it's probably ChiCom.

Where did you find any? I have looked the internet over, looked for then thru Obsolete Chrysler and had my friendly local dealer do a nationwide search for any sitting on a shelf somewhere, a tactic that has paid off in the past. If your source has any more of the correct mouldings, I'll take em!

I doubt there's any such thing, they'd have been supplied by a major glass company &, given the length of the XJ's production run that's not likely to have remained the same.
Shipping's not an option for glass: it's an insurance thing.
No idea about origin of the screen*, I called the glass company, they came & fitted it - although their original intention was to re-use the old seal.
* out of curiosity I'll have a look at the weekend - & compare with the other 2 (although there's no guarantee they are original).

I'd always believed that Euro Jeeps were assembled (by Styer-Puch) in Austria, so I'd expect the glass to be French (particularly with the Renault input) but from memory, it's all Mexican.

Interesting; didnt know that the European spec Jeeps were made 'over there'. Hmmmm
Interestingly enough, my Jeep is 'Export' according to the VIN. I wanted an esoteric little option I saw on a website years ago and took the part number to my dealer. Parts Mgr said thats no Chrysler number, but I persisted. he put it in his computer and voila! It came up. He then said it probably wouldn't fit my Jeep, so we plugged in my VIN; VIN said mine was an Export unit and it would fit. He did a search for me and found one sitting on a dealers shelf back east with 2 inches of dust on it... My XJ is LHD, but has MPH etc on the gauges, so I don't know what happened , especially since its been in the US it's whole life.
Anyway, St Gobain [for Euro] or PPG would be ok even if it didn't have the Chrysler logo on it - just don't want chicom crap.
