As promised updates. I removed the gooey tar and aluminum tape and then got out the wire cup brush on the angle grinder and went to town.
Said tool of destruction.
Hit all the rust spots. Front drivers side cleaned up good.
Rear drivers side also came out good.
Rear passenger side doesn't look too bad either.
Now the front passenger side did have a couple of spots that need to be replaced. 2 spots where the wire wheel pulled rust out that was all the way through. So I'll have to patch that side.Might do the whole pan after I investigate some more.

Yeah, you being a competent welder makes all the difference in this story. Kudos!

Thanks guys for the thoughts and input regarding this. I did get it cheap enough, and it's a good enough runner, that I figured it was worth saving.
And @BlueRidgeMark thanks for the parts offer.
I looked at a couple others in my area prior to getting this one and found rust on them too. They were similarly priced and I even tried to make a deal on one but we were too far off on price as the guy wasn't convinced the perforated floors were rusty.
Considering where this thread is headed I think it's probably best to start a build thread moving forward.

Been super busy since I last posted here. Traveling for work and made a trip to Moab last month.
Finally moving on this again so here is a link to the build thread if anyone is interested.
