Windshield replacement
What have you guys paid to get your windshield replaced? In the small town I live in, it costs about $250, but at the larger town nearby, I get quotes for about $170 (with molding replaced). Clearly the prices are influenced by region, but what should I expect to pay?
Also, some of the talking heads that gave me quotes told me that it is nearly impossible to save the molding since it is rubber and whatever. At and extra $30, it sure would be nice to save that cost.
What do you think? Also, could this be a DIY project for someone who has never done this before?
Thanks again all,
s

I recco, talking them down some, every price is negotiable especially if they are slow on business.
I would not recco doing it yourself. And I doubt you would be able to save the seal.

Is that for new? Cuz you might be able to get it for cheaper by using used glass... ButI know most car's I had that needed one were around 2 bills or so, except the Monte, that's around $700 last time I checked...

When I got my old cars replaced it was 240 and that was about 3 years ago..So aorund the $200 mark for new glass and seals isn't to bad. If you can find good glass at the JY you would just get charged labor but you might find out it's not that much of a savings.

I just had mine taken out buy a company for 50 bucks, because i had rust holes under the glass seat i had to fix.
My glass was still good but the guy said that since the dam things are glued in it would probably break cutting it out. He had to used one of those multi master things to cut the glue around the window. He was right it broke!
When I'm done there going to charge me 120 to put in new glass.
The window molding can be removed with a spacial tool to release the clips holding it, but since mine were brittle i just carefully pried mine off with a screw driver. new clips are only 7 bucks from the window guy.
So i think you could get it done for 120 plus clips from the right guy.

Well, take the advice to try to work them down on price if your buddy can't do any better. I've gotten a quote as low as $139 without moldings and $169 with. I'm going to try to keep working on deals, but I don't know if I can do any better than that. Let me know how it works out for you and I'll post too. Hopefully we can use each other to pull the price down.
