windshield washer pump
I have a 2000 Cherokee, and I'm not the kind of person to work on cars. I've never enjoyed being a mechanic, nor have I have wanted to spend my free time working on my car. I do have a Hayes book to help me for most everything, because I hate paying other people to work on my car.
But I have say, my Cherokee is very easy to work on, and I haven't had any regrets getting it. I love it, and I would recommend it to anyone (unless you enjoy listening to quiet music while on the freeway)
With that said...
My front washer stopped working, so I immediately diagnosed that is was a bad pump. But... it took me forever to FIND the darn thing. There was nothing on the internet about HOW to replace a bad pump, that I could find. So I thought I'd take a few minutes and add my two cents, and maybe help somebody out there like me fix something that was rather simple.
Once I established it was a gravity fed pump, and it was located at the bottom of the reservoir, I only need to figure out how to access it.
I removed the mud flap while laying on my back, but only the front part (not the whole thing). A couple of those stupid black push button things were a pain in the butt, but using some pliers and a flat head screw driver helped. Once I got the mud flap out of the way, the pumps where right there. Using a flat head screwdriver, I pried the old pump out (it fits in the reservoir behind held by a rubber grommet (unfortunately, I had a full tank of fluid, so I had to let it drain all the way out).
Remove the electrical and hose. Connect those to the NEW pump. Push the new pump back into the resevior (I used the orginal grommet). And filled the resevior back up, test, and wa-la.
It took me 30 minutes, but only because I hate cars, and it was very simple. I was back inside playing video games by dinner. Good times.
I hope this helps someone.
Enjoy.

2001 Cherokee washer pump
After reading many articles I found the pump location in the driver's side fender well just to the outside of the fog lights. Removed the 4 plastic push nuts and pulled the fender liner in, would be easier if the frame was jacked up to allow more clearance from the tire, standard sized.
Front pump is the lower one. Replacement found at Auto Zone 14.00 only had one but would suggest you change both if available.
Careful with the grommet in the tank, pushed the original one in the tank and used the new one. Check the pump before you install in the tank.
Good luck
