Default Wiper base spinning inside wiper housing...new wiper?

Hey all - I've had some wiper struggles (passenger wiper hitting lightbar and getting stuck until I found the right size wiper to clear it) so now when I hit the wipers, the passenger wiper doesn't move, but the round base just turns inside the housing. I'm not sure if it's the teeth on the wiper base or inside the housing or both that are at fault - they do seem to be similar material. Anybody else encounter this? If I knew it was the housing, I'd just order one, but I'm not sure. I could always put something (silicone, bubble gum, maple syrup, whatever) inside to try get them to grab, but that seems like a crap solution.

Thanks in advance for your expertise!

Grab the wiper and see if you can move the wiper by hand. It should be rock soild. Swap the left and right and see if it still does it.

Sometimes as a quick fix it works to get some fine strand copper wire, strip the outer casing, put it between the arm and spindle and tighten down. It's going to be the splines on either the arm or spindle, possibly even both if the spindle is still turning.

Thanks for the replies - all great ideas. fb97, you jogged my memory - I remembered that the wiper on that side doesn't have the little latch that you lift up to get it off!! It was tight enough previously to not be an issue, but a few times getting stuck and grinding against itself for a few cycles seems to have worn the splines down enough to make the difference.

So - I'm going to order a new wiper, which will have the latch on it, and if that doesn't hold, I'll try Boxburn's trick!

Sure appreciate it!
