Wire between starter solenoid and starter motor

Wire between starter solenoid and starter motor
Evening all,
After the last few hours of working on my wife's 99 classic Cherokee (in the rain) I think that I have narrowed down why it is not starting.
Symptoms
No crank (not even a click)
Plenty of juice. (full lights had battery tested)
Don't think that it is the NSS (followed directions on here how to test it)
In the process of checking connections between the starter and the battery I discovered that the wire between the starter solenoid and starter motor ( black sheathed cable about three inches long ) has come disconnected from the post on the starter solenoid.
Is this something that I can add a new connector to via crimping or soldering? Or do I need a whole new starter?
Thank for your time.

If you can, I'd try to fix it to get you by, but a new starter is like 50 bucks or something? I just put a new one in and I think it was pretty cheap from advance. (By the way, to help rule out NSS if not starting, just trying starting it in neutral instead of park.)

I had a very similar issue with mine, but the store said it looks like the wire was faulty just inside the housing of the starter. I would think you need a whole new unit for about $60. I wonder how the hell you broke that wire...lol

Thanks for the quick replies guys
The prices that were stated are for the '98 and below starter correct? The best price I could find for the '99 starters was $186
Not sure how she managed to do it. I think it has a lot to do with the crap they put on the roads around here during the winter.

I'm not clear why you can't reconnect it, I mean yea, I (heat) then pull the plastic off those cheap crimp type connectors and solder them. (put shrink tube on the wire first). Or you can get a nifty copper lug. Unless you have a warranty that is.

Well pulled off the starter and added a new connector got it reinstalled and fire right up. Woohoo. Told the wife that we would need to get her a new starter because I am not sure how long it was going to last. The braided copper wire was pretty corroded.
Thanks for pointing out the write up for modding the 98 starter I think we are going to be going that route shortly.
