which wires to splice to BYPASS nss on 93 XJ?
i cant get the NSS off, ive heard its a PITA to get off, but its just a daily beater, dont want to spend money on a new switch, ive tried adjusting it, and still no go. was randomly not starting, now it doesnt at all, as well as the no reverse light thing.
rather than keep trying to pry the switch off and risk breaking it (then needing a new one for SURE) i read somewhere on either here or JF, how to splice a wire together and the switch stays in place, but it bypasses it, and the only con's are no reverse lights, and itll start in any gear.
im the ONLY one that drives my jeep, so theres no issue of anyone else starting it in drive or something. the reverse lights i dont care about for now. just need to get it running.
anyone that has bypassed their switch, please help me out!
thanks!!
btw, its a 93 4.0L if that matters.

I'm not sure I'd ever want to BYPASS the switch, I mean it is a Neutral SAFETY switch for a reason.... I understand your concern about prying it off, I had that wonderful experience on mine, although with some paitence it did come off. Be sure you get all the bolts, and I strongly recommend WD40 or a similar penetrating oil on the shaft. It is a pain, but mine was pretty durable with respect to prying. Once off, you can rebuild/clean it like it's mentioned elsewhere in the forums.
Just my $2 worth (inflation adjusted)

If you MUST bypass the NSS (until you can get it off/whatever)
then do this:
Keep in mind that you will lose Reverse lights, and your trans may act weird (tcu not seeing "d" position)

Id jump them with a paperclip or piece of wire, so that you can fix/replace the NSS later on and not have a PITA with the wiring.
Put a piece of wire between those contacts, and wrap it in electrical/duct tape to keep if from falling out/shorting..
Heres where the pic came from:

not a bad fix at all.
my little jeep is like this. hence the reason for purchasing it for 100 bux. (with only 150,000 kms....93,000 miles).
i've always been able to start it, whether i put it in neutral and hold the key to start, then slightly move the shifter in neutral. or just get out and jump the starter with a pry bar/screw driver.
but i may do this.
now, my trail rig... i don't know, but it can start in gear, revers lights work, and never had a problem with the nss.... don't know why, i bought it like this after the guy swapped out a 4.0 HO. i've even changed the tranny.

my 89 doesnt have a nss...

They had a recall to put a nss in the older jeeps but apparently mine didnt get taken in. I like not having it, its one less thing to worry about

I ask cause I have a '89 that I will be the only person driving and I feel my NSS failing. I might try to fix but this could be an option.
Thanks

You can do it under the hood, the cable connects to the harness right around where the evap canister is, at the passenger side firewall. I drove my 94 around with the NSS jumpered with alligator clips for a good 100k.

perfect, thats what i was looking for. thanks!!
so you cut the wires right above the actuall NSS itself under the car, and spliced them directly above the NSS?
