oil filters have specs in microns (size of pieces, which can go through).
If you don't know specs, using another filter is questionable.
I am pretty sure switching to another auto filter is OK, but tractor? Is it filter for 50 years old tractors?
There was a website, listing bigger filters for every car, but I don't know where to find it.

Haha very clever. I was referring to WIX 51515 and NAPA 1515 as the same filter, hence the slash.

I meant what is the difference between WIX 51515/NAPA 1515 and WIX 51182/NAPA 1182? I was under the impression that *1515 was the oversized filter

Just noticed the thread title... do Renix and later years take different filters?

Yes. The Renix years have a 20mm thread. The HOs have a 3/4" thread.

I bought the threaded part for the oil filter from an HO and put it in my Renix oil filter adapter. Easier to find filters. I think it cost $3.

Since it's a 20mm thread, I doubt it's for a 50 year old tractor.

Naw relatively new. I originally found this part number from a Google search. A guy on another jeep site worked at a parts place or something and cross referenced all the specs from the stock filter. The only difference in this filter on paper is a few psi higher on the relief or something like that.

That's what I figured. Not from an old tractor.

What do you mean by that?

And which oil filter were you running previously?

10 PSI of oil pressure for each 1,000 RPMs is plenty.

When I bought my jeep it had a plain white oil filter on it no numbers no writing, so I switched to the wix when I did an oil change, and now my psi went from around 20 at idle back up around 30-35

The PO had used some tiny filter (maybe normal sized?). When I picked up my tune-up stuff from NAPA I got the 1515 filter. It is much bigger in size and seems to be very good quality

regular napa gold filter, rotella 5W40 and i get 60 psi (mechanical gauge) at start up and 20 psi hot idle versus, napa silver filter, castrol 5W30...40 psi at start up and barely ten psi hot idle...weird

i'm gonna try this bigger 'tractor' filter for the next change and post some results.

Ha 3 years later and several oil changes and I completely forgot about this, never did make the switch. For those who did and said they'd post results, where they at?

Main reason I looked this thread up was to see if I needed to change the filter adapter but as far as I can tell its screw and go.
I'm of course referring to screwing in the filter and adding oil the going.
