Okay so I’ve been working on my 97 4.0 and when I rev it won’t go past 3000 and then when I try to drive it it acts like either not enough fuel or to much air .. I did new distributor and plugs and plug wires and new 4 hole injectors and cold air intake and polished the throttle body and replaced the throttle positioning censor I’m at a holding point I don’t know what else to try

Does the exhaust smell like raw fuel?

No not really I noticed right off the exhaust header is a good sized dent the exhaust don’t really smell strong even I’m pretty sure it’s the factory fuel pump so I think I will start with that

Slow down... have you checked fuel pressure? Don't start throwing parts at the machine until you have all the pertinent information.

Yeah it’s on the weak side at 59 or 52 psi when running I was told it should be at like 70 or 80

49 is the spec.

Are you throwing any codes? Possible upstream O2 sensor?

I can't get a link to post for some reason, but look up "97 XJ fuel pressure" on Google and you will find a spec thread with a response from CCKen.

Start there.

Don't buy any parts until you get the code. There is a way to do it without a reader. It requires you doing some tricks with the key. Google 97 XJ code key trick.

Also... check your fuel injection connections for full seat and proper order.

From what I read, 14 is MAP sensor and 21 is O2 sensor issues.

O2 sensor should be in a bung in the pipe (I think your 97 has two). Is one of them already missing?
