won’t shift until warm or until first shift
So basically I’ve had this jeep for over 1 year now and In the winter it wouldn’t shift until warmed up or until after that first shift. Now it has started back up this September if I let it sit for a day or so. It has new fluid in it but not a new filter. I don’t know when the last time the filter was replaced but I don’t think that this would be the problem because it’s shifted just fine all summer. All the shifts are smooth and normal after. I have also adjusted the kick down cable. The problem is only with getting into first gear on a cold start. The tps was replaced and is not the problem and I am not getting any codes. Any suggestions from u guys will help.

No it just seems to come back only in the winter. Or when i let it sit for a couple days. The shifts are clean and crisp with no slipping. You just have drift it for maybe a mile before it will shift out of first then after that it’s fine

@cruiser54 Now I know you always say the filter is pointless to change but, is it possible that it could be clogged up a bit to the point where cooler and thicker fluid can't get through fast enough, but as it warms it can? Just a thought.
@Jamelow Try any advise Cruiser gives you, he knows what he's on about.

Could it be possible that maybe the pump in the transmission is just going bad or something like that or maybe a clogged coolant line?
but even in the summer if I let it sit for a couple days it will do it on the first startup

Yes it will move right away but in the winter sometimes it is a little bit delayed when I put it into drive. But in the summer there is absolutely no delay and it moves right away. Why do you ask?

Correct. And now it has started to do it just from sitting even in warm weather. Siting about a day or so. I’m really stumped on this. I don’t think it’s anything mechanical Bc it shifts fine the rest of the time.
